If I remember right, it aired here in Los Angeles on KTTV, Ch 11 (now the local Fox affiliate). Sometime in the afternoons. I remember Surprise Day, but not a lot more. Mostly, given we were going through puberty at the time, we paid attention to Lisa Whelchel's breasts. But I always resented that the most recent MMC was listed as being the only other one besides the one in the 50s. And they still wore uniforms in our day! :

: I'm in search of fans of The New Mickey Mouse Club syndicated TV : show from 1977-1978. I represent the New Mickey Mouse Club : Renaissance Project, a small but growing organization dedicated to not : only preserving and promoting the memory of this great show....... The 1970s Mickey Mouse Club was one of the Disney Company's television disasters in history. It was poorly planned from the start. They did an upgraded show with the latest music, etc. They filmed an entire season and without taking a survey on what people & audiences would want. In a book by Bill Cotter _title_, History of Disney Television . (1998 by Hyperion). This was mentioned(doing from memory).... After filming an entire season of the new Mouseketeers & the new show it was decided to show samples of this to a test audiences around the country...... (I'm wondering why Disney Company didn't do this in the first place, after filming a few episodes) The reactions were this...... 1) New Mousketeers were TOO SLICK not like the kids next door when original Mouseketeers were shown. 2) Kids acted too adult like in show 3) No adult authority figure like a Jimmie Dodd or a Roy Mooseketeer Williams. Many parents who view this show test samplings around the country were disappointed that this was not done. 4) Parents thought this new MMC was too Las Vegas type. 5) Kids were easily bored & lost interest. After, the sampling reports came back Disney realized their mistake but, unfortunately the entire first season was already completed and markets to independent stations already sold & contracted. Also, Disney at the time was having finacial troubles and redoing an entire season & time to get it to independent stations on promised due date was not possible. The series only lasted one season and with low ratings to boot. It was one of the few television disasters in television history.
